If you’re over 55 and a fan of Hudson’s Bay, commonly known as ‘The Bay’ to Canadians, then we have excellent news for you. It’s time to leverage your senior citizen status to grab some great deals and stretch your income even further in your golden years.

Seniors Day at The Bay happens on the first Tuesday of every month, and it gives shoppers age 55 or older an extra 15% off on eligible in-store purchases. To get your Senior Day savings, all you need is a valid form of ID and membership of their in-house rewards program, HBC Rewards.

What is The Bay?

Hudson’s Bay is a long-established luxury goods department store familiar to most Canadians. It was founded in 1670! Also called the Hudson's Bay Company, or HBC, The Bay is the name for its online shopping platform. The store brings you many of the same in-store details conveniently at your digital fingertips.

When Is Senior Day At The Bay?

Currently, Senior Day at The Bay is the first Tuesday of every month. The Bay runs its ‘Timeless Style Tuesday Discount’, also known as The Bay Seniors’ Day. Provided you are 55 and over, and a member of the HBC Rewards Program, you can get an added 15% off every Tuesday on almost any item in-store.

How to Qualify for Senior Discount at the Bay

To participate in the monthly Senior Day at The Bay, you must meet the minimum age threshold (currently 55 and over), have your valid ID on hand at checkout, and be a member of the HBC Rewards program already. Don’t forget to take your card along as proof.

Can I Use Discount Coupons in The Bay?

Yes, you can use discount coupons at The Bay. The store offers many discount coupons through their official website, and some legitimate online coupon sites also offer them. Do remember that some deals don’t allow discount stacking, so you will have to evaluate which deal will give you the best discount and use that option.

How To Get Discounts At The Bay

While Senior Day at The Bay is well worth having on your radar if you’re looking to stretch your retirement income and get great deals, it’s far from being the only discount program The Bay runs.

You will find plenty of offers and discounts every day of the month. Even if the discount isn’t senior-specific, it’s still a good way to save on your everyday purchases. Here are a few other ways to save at The Bay that you should know.

Clearance Sale

Clearance sales are a fantastic way to pick up goods you love, but which may not have proved to be popular brands, designs, or lines. Once the store decides to discontinue stocking the item, it is often moved to a clearance sale to help move the remaining stock. So if you’re in the mood for deep discounts, it’s always smart to check out what’s on clearance.

While the substantial discount you get on clearance may be the only one you are allowed to use, there are a limited number of qualifying items where you can also leverage double discounts.

Flash Sale

Flash sales are time-limited sales of items that aren’t going on clearance, and will likely remain in stock for a long while. The Bay regularly hosts both online and in-store flash sales. In-store and online deals are often separate, so you can’t always find the same deal you see online at a brick-and-mortar location. Typically, you will see ‘promo codes’ listed under the item when a flash sale is in progress.

Everyday Offers

As with all large retailers, The Bay also offers a rotating range of daily discounts on selected items. If you’re a regular buyer, it’s worth keeping an eye on your favorite brands and products and considering stocking up if a deal pops up. Again, remember that in-store and online deals are often different, so plan accordingly.

The Bay Discounted Services

On top of these regular sales and the Senior Day at The Bay, there are a few other ways to get your favorite products for less every time you shop.

The Bay Credit Card

In partnership with MasterCard, The Bay offers a branded store credit card that’s easy to sign up for. You will earn 4 points for every $1 you spend in the store. Once you hit 2,000 points, you can redeem them for a $10 gift card. While that doesn’t sound like much, it can soon add up if you’re a regular here.

Additionally, they have a 25% off sale for cardholders twice a year and over 20 ‘secret sale’ events you will be invited to enjoy.

You can sign up on their site, in-store, or through the mobile app if this interests you. Plus, it has all the features and functionality of a standard MasterCard, too.

The Bay Online Account

If you’re not keen on the commitment of a credit card, there’s still an easy way to earn points. If you sign up for an online shopping account on The Bay, you can join the rewards program and accumulate points on your purchases. You will then be able to redeem these points for future purchases. If you choose this option, you will receive a PIN, which will be used as a voucher code at checkout. This also applies to their mobile app.

The Bay Gift Registry

Hoping to make gift-giving a lot easier on your family? Create a gift register of items you love, and you could get up to 10% off the cost.

Free Shipping

As with many online retailers, The Bay offers free shipping once you pass a purchase threshold ($99). You also qualify for free shipping at lower limits if you’re using the store credit card ($45).

For those in love with beauty treats, there’s an even lower limit- $49, or $29 with the credit card. You can also opt to have the goods delivered free of charge to a store near you for collection if you prefer.

Do note that large items like furniture, large appliances, and outdoor items, typically don’t qualify for free shipping as they have much greater weight and dimensions for delivery.
