Whether you are a Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) participant, spouse, or beneficiary of a deceased TSP participant, you should be familiar with the various methods you can use to contact the retirement plan. TSP provides various methods that individuals can use to request information, update beneficiaries, track account status, send forms, or other general correspondence.

You can contact the Thrift Savings Plan by calling the ThriftLine at 1-877-968-3778 or 1-404-233-4400 if you are outside the United States or Canada. If you want to talk to a TSP representative, you should call during business hours between Monday to Friday from 7.00 am to 9.00 pm. If you want to contact TSP for a general inquiry, you should use the general correspondence address at Thrift Service Center, C/O Broadridge Processing, P.O. Box 1600, Newark, NJ 07101-1600.

What is the TSP phone number?

You can contact the TSP Service office by calling ThriftLine at 1-TSP-YOU-FIRST (1-877-968-3778) or Text telephone at 1-TSP-THRIFT5 (1-877-847-4385). If you want to talk to a TSP representative, choose menu option #3 and you will be connected to a customer service representative. You should call during business hours from Monday to Friday 7.00 am to 9.00 pm ET.

Generally, you can call ThriftLine to know your account password, check the progress of your withdrawal, check the status of a TSP loan, etc. When calling the ThriftLine, you will be required to provide your ThriftLine PIN. If you have forgotten your PIN, you can request a new PIN through your TSP account or by calling ThriftLine.

How to update your TSP mailing address

If you have moved to a new location or you have a new address, you should change your new address immediately. TSP often sends important communications via mail, and if you delay reporting your new address, TSP will send mail to your old address. The options you have to update your TSP address depend on whether you are an active federal employee or separated from federal service.

If you are an active federal service employee, you will need to contact your agency to change your address. Your agency is responsible for maintaining your TSP account and relaying any changes to TSP. You should report your new mailing address to your agency, and it can take 2 to 3 weeks for the change to take effect.

If you are no longer a federal service employee, you are responsible for notifying TSP about the change in mailing address or other changes in your personal information. You will need to obtain and complete Form TSP-9 (Change in Address for a Separated Participant). You can obtain this form on TSP.gov or by calling ThriftLine.

How do I recover my TSP account number?

If you have forgotten your TSP account, you have several options to recover the TSP account number.

Call the TSP ThriftLine at 1-877-968-3778, and follow the prompts to speak to a customer service representative. Ask the representative to provide your TSP account number; you will be required to provide your personal information to verify your identity. In most cases, the representative will submit your request and you will receive your TSP account number via mail in several weeks.

If you know your TSP account logins, log in to your TSP account to find your account number. Once logged in, navigate to the "My Account" tab and click on "Account Summary". Your TSP account number will be displayed on this page. If you have forgotten your username or password, click on “Forgot username or password”, and you will be asked to enter your Social Security Number, then click “Submit”. You will receive an email with your username, TSP account number, and a link to update your password.

If you have an old TSP participant statement, you can check the 13-digit account number on the first page of the statement. Your account number is TSP’s primary method of identifying your account and it cannot be changed.
