The Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) account number is the primary number for identifying your account, and it cannot be changed. You will need this number when logging into your TSP account, applying for a TSP loan, or when filing TSP forms. If you have forgotten your TSP account number, you can find it in several ways.

You can find your Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) by checking your quarterly or annual account statement. If you do not have a copy of your statement, you can contact TSP at 1-877-968-3778 to request a mailed copy of your statement. Also, if you have your account username and password, you can log into your account on the TSP website, and navigate to the “My Account” tab; your account number will be displayed on your profile page.

What is a Thrift Savings Plan?

A Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) is a retirement plan for civilian federal employees and uniformed servicemen. TSP accounts are managed by the federal government and offer tax advantages unavailable with other types of retirement accounts. To access your Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) account, you will need to provide your username and password.

What is the TSP account number?

The TSP account number is a 13-digit number that participants use to identify their accounts. You can use the account number or the username you create to access your account on the TSP website.

If you want to log into your TSP account, go to tsp.gov and click on the “sign in” link. You will need to provide your username and password. Once you have logged into your account, you can view your account balance, transaction history, and other information. You will also be able to make changes to your account, such as updating your investment choices or changing your withdrawal options.

How to find your Thrift Savings Plan account number

The easiest way to find your Thrift Savings Plan account number is to check your quarterly and annual account statements. Your account number will be indicated on the front page of your statement. If you do not have a copy of your statement, you can call ThriftLine at 1-877-968-3778 and request your account number to be mailed to your address.

You can also check your TSP account number by logging into your account. To log in, you will need to provide your username and password. Once logged in, navigate to the “My Account” section and go to the “Account Summary” tab. Your account number will be indicated on this page.

How to reset your TSP account password if you've forgotten it

If you have forgotten your TSP account password, you can reset this information on the login page. You will be required to provide your username and answer the secret questions.

The answer to your secret question can be found on your TSP account statement or by calling ThriftLine at 1-877-968-3778. Once you have entered your username and the answer to your secret question, click "reset password." You will be allowed to create a new password for your account.

How do I find my TSP information?

To find your TSP account information, you will need to log into your account and navigate to the “My Account” tab. Your account information will appear on this page.

To find your TSP balance, navigate to the "accounts" tab, and your balance will be listed under "TSP Balance."

To find your TSP contributions, navigate to the "contributions" tab, and your contributions will be listed under "Employee Contributions - Current Period."

How to access my TSP account after separation

If you are no longer an employee of the federal government, you can still access your TSP account. You will need to provide your username and password to access your account.

If you have forgotten your username, you can retrieve it by clicking the “forget username” link on the login page. Enter your TSP account number on the reset page.

If you don’t have your account number, check your old TSP statements for the account number. Alternatively, call the TSP hotline at 1-877-968-3778 to request the number. TSP will mail the TSP account number to the address in your file, and it will arrive in 3 to 5 days.

If you want to manage your TSP funds better, you should roll over the TSP assets to an IRA. An IRA allows you to manage your investments directly, and you get access to a large pool of assets to choose from. If you have a traditional TSP account, you won’t pay income taxes on the rollover if you are rolling over to a traditional IRA. However, if you roll over to a Roth IRA, you should expect to pay taxes on the rollover, since a Roth IRA is funded with post-tax dollars.

What type of account is my TSP account?

When you open a TSP account, you will be asked to choose between a traditional or Roth TSP account. A traditional TSP account is funded with pre-tax dollars, while a Roth TSP account is funded with post-tax funds.

You can also choose to have a blended account, which is a combination of both traditional and Roth accounts. The money in your Blended account will be invested in a way that takes into account your age and risk profile.

To change your TSP account type, you will need to contact TSP via ThriftLine at 1-877-968-3778. You will then be able to speak with a representative who can help you change your account type.
